CURRENT WORk – Reassemblage

Artist Statement

The contrast between our external brave façades and the interior worlds that we hide has formed the basis for this work. These polarities are represented through visual metaphors using duality, a play between internal and external, relationships between inside and out. I have made references to armour, veils and masks as protective devices and have also worked with cardboard boxes, which like people, can have predictable exteriors but concealed contents.

To me ‘Reassemblage’ means “the process of putting one’s self back together. These works are a deconstruction and re-assemblage through making, breaking and re-forming of images, founded in collage with parts removed and dislodged. Disrupting the unity of the picture plane, the works dip between abstraction and formalism, my practice re-oriented towards new work.
